Jorge M. C. Almeida e Pinho holds a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (German/English) – 1988 – and another degree in Portuguese Studies – Translation – 1990 – from the Faculty of Letters of the Porto University (FLUP),
In 1998, he completed the first Portuguese Masters in Translation Studies at the Faculty of Letters of the Porto University (FLUP).
In 2011, he completed his PhD in Anglo-American Studies – Translation, at the Faculty of Letters of the Porto University (FLUP).
As an author he already published two books in Portuguese: O Escritor Invisível (The Invisible Writer. 2006. QuidNovi) and A Tradução para Edição (Translation for Publishing. 2014. Edições U.P.) concerning his main area of studies – Translation Studies.
He was a Coordinator Professor at the Instituto Superior de Administração e Gestão (ISAG), from 2006 to 2016.
He is also a Visiting Adjunct Professor at Escola Superior de Educação, of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, since 2010 (Media Studies; English; Translation Studies).
He has also been a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Letters of Coimbra University, since 2015, in the Masters in Translation (Literary Translation; English-Portuguese Translation; Specialized English-Portuguese Translation; Introduction to Simultaneous Interpreting; Simultaneous Interpreting; Translation Theory; Methodology) and in the Ph. D. in Modern Languages, Cultures, Literatures, Translation (Theories and Methodologies of Translation; Translation Practices).
Editor of the scientific translation journal Génesis from 2001 to 2007, he was also the coordinator of the degree in Translation and Interpreting at ISAG until 2010.
Since 2007, he is a Researcher at CETAPS (Centre for English Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies) of the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto and Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Assistant Researcher at InED (Centre of Research and Innovation in Education) from the Higher School of Education of the Polytecnhic Institute of Porto. He was also, between 2013 and 2017, Researcher for CECC (Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Cultura) da Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Faculdade de Ciências Humanas).
Editor at the Dictionaries Department of Porto Editora between 1991 and 1996, he was also the Lexicographic Consultant and Coordinator of the European Program STRIDE in the Electronic Dictionaries Projects of Porto Editora.
He has been a translator since 1990 and as such has translated a large number of authors, from very different areas, namely Children’s Literature, History, Non-Fiction and Fiction for many Portuguese publishing houses. Among the many authors he translated into Portuguese the following names must be highlighted: Noam Chomsky, Basil Davidson, Margaret Joan Anstee, Erwin Schrödinger, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Diane Ackerman, Kevin Lynch, Ernesgt Gellner, Russell Stannard, Jesse L. Jackson, Giovanna Borradori, Donovan Bixley, James Risen, Alex Shearer, Don Tapscott, Andy McNab, Ann Bridges, Susan Hill, Sara Maitland, George Bernard Shaw, Kitty Kelley, and Bram Stoker.
As a technical translator he has already more than 20 years of experience in English to Portuguese (PT) translations, with a very diverse expertise in several technical areas, namely sports, law, economics, engineering, finances, hardware, marketing, medicine and software.
As a proofreader, reviser and reviewer, he has a good command of revision and proof-reading tasks, since he took that responsibility for such jobs in the publishing houses for which he has worked.
