Carlos Manuel Faísca is a Researcher Fellow at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20), Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Board member of CEIS20, all at the University of Coimbra. He also serves as President of the Portuguese Association of Economic and Social History.
He holds a degree in History (2007) and a Master's in Information Sciences (2011), both from the NOVA FCSH, and a PhD in Economics (2019) from the Universidad de Extremadura. His research relies on long-term interdisciplinary approaches using methods from History and Economics, and also using the knowledge from other sciences such as Agronomy, Forestry, or Biology. His doctoral thesis, entitled “El negocio corchero en Alentejo: explotación forestal, industria y política económica, 1848-1914”, received the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado from the U. Extremadura, as well as the first Honorable Mention of the Jorge Gelman Prize, awarded biennially to the best doctoral thesis in the Ibero-American space by the Sociedad de Estudios de Historia Agraria. In addition to these, he has received the Joaquim Romero Magalhães Prize, granted by the Municipality of Loulé, and the Santiago Zapata Blanco Prize, awarded by the University of Girona. Currently, among other investigations, he is developing the project DryMED – Exploring dryland: agrarian systems and crop varieties in Mediterranean Iberia (18th to 20th centuries), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
