Profile

Md Nazmul Azim Beg graduated in Civil engineering with a major in Water Resources Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).  Later he completed his Master in Science degree in EuroAquae: Hydroinformatics and Water Management. He received Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship for the completion of his master degree in three different European universities; University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Brandenburg University of Technology. His MSc thesis was entitled as "Implementation of a 3D Model for the North Sea and UK Surrounding Area"; which he completed at DHI, Denmark

Nazmul has more than 3 years of working experience in the field of hydrology and hydraulics, with Institute of Water Modelling, Dhaka. He was involved in many projects regarding coastal and riverine hydraulics at the coastal floodplains of Bangladesh Delta. He also worked as a visiting researcher for short terms at the University of Sheffield, University of Zagreb and Technical University of Munich.

Nazmul's research interests and expertise include:

1. Modelling of urban drainage structures using 3D CFD model

2. Modelling of sediments in urban drainage system

3. Development of 3D to 2D and 3D to 1D integrated model

4. Transport processes in both pressure flow and open channel flow

5. Hydraulic and morphodynamic complexity at the estuary region

6. Storm surge and salinity intrusion and there effect at the coastal region

7. Climate change and its impacts in flooding

Research project

Quantifying Uncertainty in Integrated Catchment Studies (QUICS)

QUICS is a Marie Curie Intitial Training Network, being co-ordiated at the University of Sheffield.  The overall aim of QUICS is to provide high levels of training and carry out research in order to take the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) to the next level and improve water quality management by assessing the uncertainty of integrated catchment model water quality predictions.

For full details, see the project website.
