André Tomás Santos is assistant professor of Archaeology in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. He is a researcher in the Centre for Studies in Archaeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences and a collaborator in UNIARQ. He has worked in several archaeological projects across Portugal and particularly in the province of Beira Alta. He argued his PhD thesis in the University of Oporto in 2017, a work that was awarded by the Portuguese association of Archaeologists in the following year. He worked full-time in the Côa Valley for 19 years and continues researching in the region. He was one of the authors of the permanent exhibition of the Côa Museum and of its digital renovation. He was one of the commissars of the exhibition “Limitless art. Côa & Siega Verde”, that was awarded with the best international project award by the Portuguese Association of Museology. He authored and co-authored 3 books and close to 100 papers about several problematics of Iberian Prehistory, besides editing several collective works. He is a member of the Centre of Prehistoric Studies of Beira Alta, the Portuguese Association of Archaeologists and the European Association of Archaeologists.

Research areas
My research is focused on the production of images during prehistory, specially of those of Palaeolithic chronology. My main interests in the subject are the social pertinence of those images in their context of origin and the ways that its characteristics and relations they established between themselves and with its surrounding landscape, can help us to infer past ontologies.
