Carlos Eduardo Jesus Martins concluded is Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Structures) in 28th January of 2019 at University of Coimbra (Approved with Praise and Distinction by unanimity). Is Integrated Member of Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering since 2019. Actually is Senior Researcher at SerQ - Centro de Inovação e Competências da Floresta (hired by F4F project) and Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra. His research career started in 2010, after is graduation as Master in Civil Engineering also by the University of Coimbra. Between 2010 and 2014 was a scholarship researcher in three different projects focused on the development and characterisation of timber-concrete composite for structural applications, like: floors incorporating expanded cork granules in concrete (LogCork - PTDC/ECM/099833/2008) and timber-concrete rural bridges for road traffic using round-wood (Eco-Tabuleiro - QREN 30224). During that period he developed skills on the following topics: i) characterisation of lightweight concrete recipes ii) mechanical characterisation of timber-concrete connections; iii) acoustic and dynamic analysis of timber-concrete floors and iv) load distribution of timber-concrete floors. In between he has been involved on the assessment of the most important mechanical properties of Maritime pine species in bending (PEP EI 0303). Skills related with the use of non-destructive tools for predicting the static bending properties were deeply developed. In 2014 he was awarded with a scholarship from FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology to perform his PhD studies on the subject of "Health Assessment of Glued Laminated Timber Elements". During that four year period he developed his knowledge on the following topics: i) bonding performance; ii) integrity of glue lines after natural ageing; iii) mechanical characterisation of glued laminated timber beams; iv) mechanical characterisation of several native wood species and v) numerical modelling using finite elements methods. Between 10/2018 and 03/2019 has been part of OptimizedWood project research team (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-017867) with a scholarship, followed by a Post-Doctoral position at Tech4Timber project (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-038357) up to 10/2020. Is part of the research team of Value2Prevent project (national) and EGURALT project (international). His research results were disseminated through 21 publications in peer-reviewed journal papers; 1 paper in a book chapter; 12 papers and 1 poster published in international conferences; 2 papers in national magazines; and participation in 4 international scientific conferences. In total the results achieved involved a collaboration with a total of 22 researchers who shared the authorship of the publication list. Co-supervisor of 4 Master Thesis (concluded and approved) and Supervisor of a Master Thesis (under development) . Lecturer within the Integrated Master's in Civil Engineering (Materials Strength I; Reinforced Concrete I) and within Master Course in Building Rehabilitation (Rehabilitation of Ancient Structures; Inspection and Diagnosis of Buildings; Rehabilitation of Structures Using Metallic Solutions). Invited Reviewer in five journal papers: Engineering Structures; European Journal of Wood and Wood Products; Journal of Civil Engineering and Construction Technology; Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings; Forests. Effective member of Portuguese Engineer Council (since 2010). Is main domain is Civil Engineering and sub-domain is Timber Structures, being the most frequent keywords: Glued laminated timber; Numerical modelling; Analytical methods; Surface bonding; Ageing process of glulam; Timber -concrete connections and floors; Shear tests; Visual and mechanical characterisation; Modulus of elasticity; Bending strength; Round wood; Grading of wood utility poles; Native species; Statistical analysis.
