Liliana holds a Ph.D. in Portuguese Linguistics (2011), a Master’s degree in Descriptive Linguistics (2006), and an undergraduate degree in Portuguese and English Studies (2001) by the University of Coimbra. She was also a Visiting Research Student at SOAS – School of Oriental and African Studies (2006), where she received training in African Linguistics, Linguistic Typology, and Technology and Language Documentation (2006).
Liliana has taught General, Portuguese and Applied Linguistics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in public universities in Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola, and Macao, where she has also been responsible for the creation, teaching, and management of multiple Teacher Training Courses and Portuguese Language courses for speakers of other languages. Between January 2013 and June 2016, Liliana managed the Portuguese Language Center at IPOR – Instituto Português do Oriente in Macao, where she was responsible for reforming the curriculum of all Portuguese language programs offered by the institution.
Liliana’s research focuses mostly on the study of the language situation in Angola, where she carried out fieldwork (2004), and on the documentation and description of Angolan Portuguese. Her research is in the interface between Portuguese Linguistics, Descriptive Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Contact Linguistics, and Second Language Acquisition.
