Clara Isabel Serrano is Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of History, European Studies, Archaeology and Art of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (DHEEAA-FLUC). She is an integrated researcher at the Group "History, Memory and Public Policies" of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Coimbra (CEIS20-UC) and a collaborating researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon (IHC-NOVA-FCSH). Since July 2020, she has been a member of the Scientific Board of CEIS20 and, since January 2024, she is part of the Board of the Portuguese Association of History Teachers (APH). She holds a PhD in Contemporary Studies and Comparative International Studies from FLUC (2014), with the dissertation "Arte de falar e arte de estar calado: Augusto de Castro - Jornalismo e Diplomacia" ["The art of speaking and the art of being silent: Augusto de Castro - Journalism and Diplomacy"]. Her main areas of research, within the broader fields of Comparative International Studies and Contemporary History, are the process of political construction of the European Union and the Portuguese political and cultural history, from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. Over the last years, as a result of multiple interests in the Portuguese education system and the successive curricular reforms, she has also been researching the changing narratives in history programmes and textbooks (over the last five decades).
