Research areas

As member of the Communications and Telematic Services Research Group of CISUC, Fernando Boavida carries out research activity in the following areas:

  • Wireless Sensor Networks - the main research topics have to do with the use of IPv6 in WSNs in line with the 6LoWPAN group of IETF, roouting in WSNs, mobility management in WSNs, and development of middleware tools for the support of applications using multimedia sensor networks in home environments
  • Internet of Things - the main research topics cover a variety of areas, middleware frameworks and architectures, to people-centric IoT, and human-in-the-loop cyber-physical systems
  • Host and Network Mobility - the main research topics in this area concern route optimisation for NEMO. Contrary to existing solutions for route optimisation, the paradigm being explored is based on the notion that Internet nodes are aware of their mobility conditions and capabilities. This leaves complexity out of the network and puts it inside the nodes, leading to no changes in existing protocols and to lighter routers.
