Invited Assistant Professor
Sara Moreno Pires is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and teaches at the Public Administration graduate and undergraduate degrees on Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Management, Research Methodologies and Administration Science. Her research interests are mainly centered on the development and use of Sustainability Indicators and their role on urban governance and on the implementation of Local Agenda 21 strategies. She particularly focuses her research on urban sustainability planning, policy and monitoring in Europe and Portugal. She holds a PhD in Applied Environmental Sciences (University of Aveiro, Portugal, 2011), a MSc in Development and Planning: Environment and Sustainable Development (University College London, UK, 2002) and a BSc in Economics (University of Coimbra, Portugal, 2000). She has previously worked at the Portuguese National Statistics Institute as a member of the coordination team for the Project ‘Urban Statistics’, which resulted in the publication of the First ‘Atlas of Cities of Portugal’ in 2002. Her research has been published, for example, at the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Ecological Indicators, Cities, Journal of Cleaner Production, Regional Science and Regional Studies, among others.
