Rita F. Carvalho is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Civil Engineering Department of University of Coimbra, Portugal and a senior researcher at MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, belonging to Aquatic Research Network, ARNET. She has a degree, a MSc, a Ph.D. and an Habilitation in Civil Engineering, Speciality of Hydraulics and hers Ph.D. received an award from the Portuguese Association of Hydraulic Resources [APRH]. She is a member of the International Association of Hydraulic and Environmental Resources and belongs to Hydraulic Structures Technical Committee since 2009. She integrated Hydraulic Structures Technical Committee Leadership Team 2013 -2019 and Sustainable Development GoalsWorking Group Leadership Team in 2019, and Committee on Fluid Mechanics Leadership Team in 2021, where she is currently vice-chairman. She founded the Iberian Group of OpenFOAM technology users with Colleagues from different institutions. She is a senior member of Nation Order of the Engineers [OE].
The main activity is related with teaching and research at Civil Engineering Department in the University of Coimbra. Scientific activity has been centered in the numerical models based on VoF concept coupled with laboratory measurements and experimental work in the aim of Hydraulic Structures associated either on Urban Drainage or Fluvial and Maritime. She teaches/taught Hydraulics, Numerical Methods, UrbanWater (Water Supply and Drainage) and other skills to graduate students; Hydraulic Structures, Fluvial and Coastal Hydraulics, Computational Modelling and other skills to master students and Advances Laboratory Techniques, (Experimental Techniques, Physical Modelling), CFD and Scientic Methodology in pH'D courses; supervised several ph'D (5 complete and 3 undergoing) and master students (>30 complete and 1 undergoing) as well as other researchers (2 researcher scholarship) and she participated in more than 60 jury panel, master and PH'D in and outside of University of Coimbra, (Universidade de Lisboa-IST, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidade do Porto-FEUP, Polytechnic University of Valencia and University of a Corunha, Spain, University of Rouen Normandie and EDF, France, University of Liège, Belgium and University College Dublin, Ireland). She published more than 150 works in National and International Conferences and Journals being round 50 papers in journals ISI Web of Knowledge/Web of Science. She has been involved in 15 national and international research projects, and actually lead 1 interreg Atlantic Project called SISdATA (https://sisdata.dec.uc.pt/). She participated in more than 50 scientic meetings, 150 scientic events (including >100 international Congresses), and was involved in more than 40 scientic and review committees of National and International Congresses. She is also reviewer of several International Journals, has complete more than 100 reviews and was involved in more than 20 scientific and review committees of National and International Congress. She also participated on several services rendering for Municipality (Coimbra and Barreiro) and cooperate with LNEC and enterprises such as Saint-Goubain, Coba, EDP, FlowMOD3D and Matereo.
