Main Interests |
Biophysics of model systems of biological membranes (liposomes), using optical spectroscopic techniques and molecular simulation. Biologically relevant membrane composition heterogeneities (domains, rafts). Interaction of proteins, peptides and nucleic acids with membranes. Distribution/aggregation state of other compounds of biological relevance (cholesterol, polyene antibiotics), in relation with membrane properties (composition, polymorphism). Photophysics and fluorescence spectroscopy. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Theory of FRET between chromophores with non-random distribution or in restricted geometry. Development and testing (by computational simulation) of theoretical models and programming algorithms for analysis of complex fluorescence decay kinetics. Molecular dynamics simulations of lipid bilayers and their interaction with amphiphilic molecules (including membrane-active peptides and fluorescent molecular probes).
