Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra.
Collaborates with ICNAS (Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health) and is a member of its Scientific Council.
Teaches several subjects at the University of Coimbra, in the areas of Biophysics, Image Processing, Statistics and Medical Imaging:
- Biophysics and Physical Medicine (Integrated Master of Dentistry),
- Image Analysis and Processing (various courses),
- Biostatistics (Integrated Master's in Dentistry),
- Research Methods/Population Health II (Integrated Master's in Medicine)
and collaborates in other disciplines, mainly related to physics and medical imaging (Fundamentals of Imaging for Diagnosis and Therapeutics, Physics of Nuclear Medicine, Physics of Radiology, etc).
Research focuses on optimizing data acquisition and processing methods for medical imaging, namely for Positron Emission Tomography (PET), including the development of data correction techniques for PET and iterative image reconstruction algorithms. Currently participates in the development of software for image reconstruction for a PET scanner prototype compatible with proton therapy (TPPT project: TOF-PET for Proton Therapy). Previously, he participated in other projects with the goal of developing prototypes of PET scanners (ClearPEM, PET-RPC, EasyPET).
