Member of the Centre for Biomedical Law (Centro de Direito Biomédico), Ius Gentium Conimbrigae (Human Rights Centre) and the Centre for Family  Law (Centro de Direito da Família).

Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Albert‐Ludwigs‐Universität (Freiburg, Germany), from October 1996 to September 1997; July/August 1999; MPI Sozialrecht und Sozialpolitik, Munich (October/November 2012)

He took part on Biomed‐II: Basical ethical principles in Bioethics and Biolaw (1995‐1998/ EU Project PL 950207),  PRIVILEGED (Proposal European Commission 6th Framework Program on Research, Technological Development and Demonstration) and MORAPOL (Comparative Analysis of Moral Policy Change – Coordinator of the Portuguese Questionnaire). 

He teaches Constitutional Law and Social Security Law at Coimbra University (Faculty of Law).
