MSc in Soil Mechanics at the New University of Lisbon in 1987 (2 years course: 1 academic year plus 1 year for preparation of the thesis) with a thesis titled “The influence of some factors in the shear strength behaviour of soils”
PhD at the University of Leeds, UK, in 1992, with a thesis titled “Model Studies of Fabric-Reinforced Brick-Faced Earth-Retaining Walls”
