Ana Maria César Bastos Silva earned her Degree in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, in September 1990, her Master in Civil Engineering (specialized in Urban Engineering) at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, in June 1997, and her PhD in Civil Engineering (specialized in Urban Design, Planning and Transport) in July 2004, through the dissertation "Defining a Crossroads of Design Methodology Rotary" which was approved with praise and distinction, by unanimous vote.

She is assistant professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, since 2004 until the present day.

She won different Research awards, both nationally and internationally. She has participated in several European and national projects, also with the role of local and/or general coordinator. She is reviewer for several international journals; she has conducted scientific supervision for several PhD theses and PhD project programs. Research activity is shown by scientific articles on journals and proceedings of national and international conferences; she has participated in editing of books and book chapters on her own research areas. Specifically, her areas of research and expertise include development of geometric design consistency models and traffic modeling; calibration of microscopic simulation models for the analysis of urban intersections, analyses of capacity, safety, and emissions for roundabouts and turbo-roundabouts, estimation of behavioral parameters at road intersections, driver behavior characterization in roundabout crossings, performance assessment of turbo-roundabouts in corridors.
