Master Degree in Computer Music and Sound Design
General Objectives of the Course
Through an interdisciplinary program that combines computer science, engineering, design and art, the Master in Computer Music and Sound Design aims to train specialised professionals in the areas of computer music and sound design, exploring the convergence between music, digital technologies and the creative industries.Admission Requirements
1. The following may apply for access to the cycle of studies leading to a master’s degree:
a) Holders of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent legal in: Informatics, Music, Design and Multimedia and related degrees;
b) Holders of a higher academic degree abroad granted after a 1st cycle of studies organised according to the principles Bologna
Process by a State adhering to this Process, in the areas referre.d to in paragraph a);
c) Holders of a higher academic degree obtained abroad that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of the bachelor’s degree by
the Scientific Council of FCTUC;
d) In duly justified cases, the holders of a scientific, artistic and professional curriculum relevant to the frequency of this cycle of
studies and that, as such, recognized by the Scientific Council of FCTUC;
2. The recognition referred to in points b) d) of paragraph 1 has the effect of only access to the cycle of studies leading to a master’s
degree.

Portuguese and EnglishExamination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from teaching, aimed at improving the skills and knowledge acquired by students, their pro-activity and critical and synthesis spirit, their ability to enunciate and solve problems, as well as their mastery of written and oral communication. Students enrolled in the respective curricular units in the academic year to which the tests relate and, simultaneously, enrolled in these tests are admitted to assessment tests, when such registration is necessary, in accordance with the regulations of the University of Coimbra. The following examples are understood by evaluation elements: written or oral exam, frequencies, problem solving, practical work (laboratory or computational) or written, as well as projects, individual or group, which may have to be defended orally. The assessment of each curricular unit may include one or more of the indicated assessment elements, with students having to be aware of the weighting of each component in the final assessment, under the terms of the regulations of the University of Coimbra. The classification of each student, for each curricular unit, translates into an integer value between 0 and 20 values and students who obtain a minimum final classification of 10 values are considered approved. Approval in the Dissertation/Internship course includes a test of public defense of the work carried out before a jury made up of specialists in the field in which it is inserted, in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the University of Coimbra (RAUC).Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The Master Degree in Computer Music and Sound Design aims to train professionals who:— Understand and explore techniques/technologies associated with sound design and music, namely computer music;
— Develop recording, production and composition projects;
— Know the mechanisms and criteria of aesthetic appreciation in the field of sound and music;
— Understand the opportunities for dialogue between computer science and contemporary music practices.

Recognition of Prior Learning
The recognition of prior learning is done according to the Regulation for Crediting Previous Training and Professional Experience of the University of Coimbra available at the following link https://www.uc.pt/academicos/docs/avisos/Reg_Creditacao_Formacao_AnteriorThese regulations fall under the legal regime defined by Decree Law no. 74/2006, of March 24, amended by Decrees Law no. 107/2008, of June 25, 230/2009, of September 14 and 115/2013, of 7 of August, in particular Articles 45, 45a and 45b, and by Administrative Rule 401/2007 of 5 April.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The qualification is framed in Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of March 24, in the current version; Ordinance no. 782/2009, of July 23.Graduation Requirements
The degree or diploma will be obtained by meeting all the required credits (120 ECTS).
