I am a tenured assistant professor at the Department of Informatics EngineeringUniversity of Coimbra since 1986,  when I received my PhD in Computer Engineering.

My research interests are within software as an engineering activity, along its three axis:peopleprocesses and technologies. On the technology perspective I've been working on applying Process Mining to software development. On the process side I've been teaching and consulting from loose Agile to hard-core CMMI. On the people perspective, I'm interested in the interplay between the creativity of people and the constraints of processualization. From 2007 to 2012 I was Adjunct Associate Professor at the Institute for Software Research  of Carnegie-Mellon University.

I have managed more than ten International projects, founded two successful startups, was head of my Department at the University as well as Director of the Laboratory for Informatics and Systems of IPN, a Industry-University interface.
