Optical Transmission Systems. Optical Networks. English
10 hours of seminar, 15 hours of tutorial sessions.
Knowledge about the state of the art on devices and sub-systems used in optical transmission systems with WDM and in optical networks with wavelength conversion.
After attending this curricular unit successfully, the students should have the scientific and technological knowledge required to design and model those devices and subsystems, and should be able to understand and follow up the scientific and technological evolution in this domain.
Nonlinear effects in optical fibers. Passive and active components in optical fiber. Passive components in planar waveguides. Semiconductor lasers and optical amplifiers. Optical modulators. Photo detectors and integrated optical receivers. Components for WDM (wavelength division multiplexing). Photonic switching.
