Teaching Methods
Lectures supported by audiovisual aids, case studies, training with assessment and intervention material; analysis and interpretation of assessment protocols, development of intervention programs; DVD analysis.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the diversity of different types of developmental problems;
- Characterize specific developmental disorders in terms of symptoms, causes and prevalence.
- Know and participate in the implementation of the early intervention process;
- Participate in the screening and identification processes.
- Have access to assessment instruments oriented towards intervention purposes.
- Select and implement intervention methods and techniques, including school based methods.
- Identify rehabilitation methods and techniques adjusted to individual and contextual specificitiesand to a life-span perspective.

- Module I: Characterization of Developmental Disorders: Autistic Spectrum Disorders (AED); Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD); Attention Deficit and Hiperactivity Disorder (ADHD); Cerebral Palsies (CP). The concept of rehabilitation.
- Module II - Identification and Assessment of Developmental Disorders: Assessment methods and instruments directed towards screening and identification; Assessment methods and instruments directed towards intervention.
- Module III – Early Intervention in Developmental Disorders: The process of family centered early intervention. Recommended practices in specific developmental disorders (AED; IDD; ADHD; CP).
- Module IV - Intervention in School Context: Educational accommodations. Teaching principles and methods recommended in specific developmental disorders (AED; IDD; ADHD; CP). Rehabilitation strategies. Transition from school to post-school life.
- Module V - Intervention in adult life.
