Training required in Topography, Numerical Methods, Statistical Methods, Hydraulics I and II.
Teaching Methods
Lectures with exposition of concepts, principles and theories of hydrology and water resources. Practical problems may be solved to help illustrate the theoretical understanding of the subjects.
Lectures to solve problems of practical applications.
Laboratory practical classes where students, working in groups, perform laboratory work in practice applying the theoretical knowledge acquired and produced a report which makes a critical analysis of the results.
Field classes where students, working in groups, using equipment (e.g. velocity probes, infiltrometers) applying in practice the theory.
Learning Outcomes
- Provide students with an understanding of the behaviour of the hydrological phenomena and tools for its quantification, for the analysis of available water resources, and for the identification of needs and emerging demands of water.
- Provide students with basic knowledge on hydrologic design, in the areas of surface water, subsurface drainage, stormwater urban drainage and water management.
- It is intended that, in relation to the topics, students develop skills of independent learning and critical thinking, analysis and synthesis, group work, focusing on the practical application of theoretical knowledge to enable the resolution of problems.
