Teaching Methods

After lectures on the fundamental theoretical models of information, the work in the classroom will be based on the analysis of texts of reference and the clarification of subjects using audiovisual materials.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is to enable students to

– Acquire theoretical models in the study of information;

– Understand the concepts of sign and meaning, language and comprehension, writing and reading, from a sociological point of view, in order to analyze the roles of information expert and consumer;

– Relate the composition of the public and consumption habits to different types of information, and the resulting (re)organization of information in libraries and archives and other institutions;

– Discuss the change in consumers’ behaviour in view of the new information technologies and the evolution of cultural standards as a consequence of the access to global information networks.
