Lecture, discussion and analysis of texts, case studies presented by external invited specialists.

Learning Outcomes

Main objectives:

- To develop in students skills of analysis and understanding of the processes of social change in contemporary societies.

- To provide students with tools to discuss issues of social transformation based on the theoretical models of the social sciences.

Learning Outcomes:

- To know and discuss the main paradigms of social change in the context of contemporary societies, with particular reference to the debates on multiculturalism.

- To acquire basic knowledge about the relationships of education and social justice with development.

- To know and be able to discuss the main vectors of social change in contemporary Portuguese society.

- To know how to use the theoretical knowledge as tools for reasoning and critical analysis of social policies, as well as for designing, implementing and evaluating social intervention programs at different levels.

2. Social decline and cultural rise in change paradigms. Cultural diversity and debates about multiculturalism.

3. Education as a factor in development and as an illustration of the social-historical processes of social change.
