Teaching Methods
Teaching methods include lectures, audiovisual techniques, visit to a rehabilitation institution (Cerebral Palsy Center of Coimbra Psychiatric Hospital Sobral Cid).
Learning Outcomes
At the end of UC students should be able to: Frame / critically analyze the evolution and current trends in legislation / policies of social rehabilitation in the country; Knowing the diversity / prevalence of the different groups of special populations; characterize the semiological point of view / epidemiological / nosographic special groups of population with: learning disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), motor disability (cerebral palsy), mental deficiency, mental illness, know the difficulties / challenges of the intervention with the mentally ill, with emphasis on psychoeducative interventions and community; Meet methods / techniques (based on theories of human development and social systems) that allow dynamic / mobilize resources in order to provide timely and appropriate responses, perspetivando a rehabilitation project integrated and realistic; Participate in planning and execution of projects therapeutic rehabilitation / habilitation.

Concepts of impairment, disability and handicap, 2) Concept of rehabilitation according to the WHO, 3) Definition of SEN; 4) Legal and social policies of rehabilitation in Portugal; 5) Learning disabilities: definitions and relevant etiologies, strategies rehabilitation; 6) visual impairment: taxonomy / etiology; regularities in the socio-emotional and cognitive development, rehabilitation strategies, 7) hearing loss: taxonomy / etiology; rehabilitation strategies; 8) cerebral Palsy: taxonomy / relevant etiologies and rehabilitation strategies , 9) mental retardation: taxonomy / etiology; regularities in the socio-emotional and cognitive development; rehabilitation strategies; 10) mental health and institutional responses: analysis of the Report on the Restructuring and Development of mental Health Services in Portugal (2007-2016); 11) psychoeducative interventions in mental illness; 12) Community interventions in mental illness.
