Training Course in China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries in World Trade: Commerce, Tourism, Cooperation and Development

General Objectives of the Course

This course provides the knowledge required to a better understanding of the institutional structure and of the highly uncertain and complex business environment in People’s Republic of China and the Portuguese-speaking countries (Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor). Actors that play a role in the relationship between these two worlds, which are geographically and culturally apart, recognize the importance of knowledge and preparation to achieve their purposes. Therefore, the course is indicated to (future) diplomats, government officials or journalists, lawyers, managers, entrepreneurs and investors involved in China’s relations with Europe and the Lusophone world.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final evaluation of each course unit is expressed by a classification in a numeric scale from 0 to 20. The course’s final grade is obtained through the weighted arithmetic average (rounded to the nearest unit) of the compulsory and elective course units, having the ECTS number as a weighted factor. The courses’ final grade is expressed in the range of 10-20 of the numerical integer scale 0 to 20, as well as its equivalent in the European comparability scale of classification. The final course classification is associated to a qualitative mention, expressed in terms of 10 to 13 – Sufficient, 14 and 15 – Good, 16 and 17 – Very Good and 18 to 20 – Excellent.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Students who actively participate in this course will be able to understand China’s relations with the Lusophone world in the context of globalization, and will develop a substantial knowledge of the European Union. They are expected to become better equipped to find employment as cross-cultural mediators for business, administration and international organizations.
