Training Course in Incredible Years: Teacher Program

General Objectives of the Course

According to teacher’s reports, 16-30% of children in the class continually pose problems related to social emotional and behavioral difficulties (Raver & Knitzer, 2002). In initial and continuing training these professionals do not have specific responses to deal effectively with these problems. The objectives targeted by this training are the development of strategies and skills, within the objectives of the program Incredible Years, which will enable trainees to:
- Promoting in children increased self-esteem, motivation, the ability to solve problems, social and academic skills, obedience and personal and collective responsibility;
- The reduction of disobedience, of impulsive, disruptive, defiant and violent behaviors and non-motivation in children;
- The active involvement of families in the education of the child in the educational context.

Admission Requirements

A degree in the scientific area of Educational Sciences / Education or other degree provided with a relevant curriculum.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Trainees develop skills that allow them to:
• Promote social skills in children
• Use praise, descriptive comments and "coaching"
• Use individual and group incentives to motivate children
• Teach proactively
• Train problem solving with children
• Redirect, dealing with transitions, warnings, clear rules, schedules
• Reduce disruptive behavior
• Set limits, ignore, time-out and use of consequences

• Design and implement behavior plans and discipline hierarchies
• Establishing positive relationships with difficult children
• Promote parental involvement and trust
• Promote collaboration with parents
• Manage stress
• Establish classroom rules, expected behavior, training of emotions.
