General Objectives of the Course

Foundation Year Programme – Science & Technology is a course for international students with the main purpose to complement their original pre-university education so that they can later attend successfully a higher degree course. It is intended to consolidate the scientific concepts necessary for the continuation of studies and also develop their understanding in a critical and reflective way. A specific preparation at the level of oral and written Portuguese is also given to the students.

Admission Requirements

International students with a level of education equivalent to the Portuguese high school diploma and with basic speaking and writing skills in Portuguese.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final grade, expressed on a scale of 0-20, is calculated based on the weighted average of the marks obtained in the course units . All courses are evaluated continuously (50 % ) and by a final exam ( 50%).

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

It is intended that this course consolidates and deeps previous scientific knowledges, developing the following skills : abstraction and ability to formulate, analyze and solve scientific problems; ability to use mathematical models to study real situations with logic and critical reasoning. Individual and group work skills must be developed too.
