General Objectives of the Course

this course aims to improve students proficiency on reading, writing and conversing in order to give students more autonomy in debates and presentations, improving Italian proficiency to a level close to B1 from Common European Framework of Reference for Languages so that the learner become ever more independent in the use of the Italian Language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment will preferably be continuous.
The final test will consist of a work produced by the student during the semester consisting in developing a topic and a test only on grammar, on the penultimate day of classes.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Students will develop skills in comprehension, production and linguistic interaction in Italian consistent with a beginner’s level, corresponding to A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. According to the self-assessment grid of European level:
Listening: I can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very Basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment). I can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements
Reading: I can read very short, simple texts. I can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospects, menus and timetables and I can understand simple short personal letters.
Spoken interaction: I can communicate in simple routine tasks requiring a simple and direct Exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. I can handle very short social exchanges; even though I can’t usualy understand enough to keep the conversation going myself
Spoken production: I can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms my family and other people, living conditions, my education background, and my present or most recent Job.
Writing: I can write short simple notes and messages. I can write a very simple personal letter, for example thanking someone for something.

Graduation Requirements

As a rule, continuous assessment is the preferential regime to assess our students knowledge which requires 75% attendance and completion of two assessment tests. Other elements such as class participation, homework and tasks performed throughout the course, are also taken into account for evaluation. At the end of each level, students can request the corresponding certificate, if the course has been successfully completed.
