Objetivos do Curso

Masters in Chemistry is intended to give additional training to students who have completed the 1st cycle preparing them for the work market and giving them appropriate training for admission to PhD in Chemistry.
The area of specialization in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry has the following objectives: i) to provide a solid background in research areas of excellence of the Chemistry Department; ii) develop skills for management and planning of scientific and development research activity in academic and business environment.
The area of specialization in Quality Control and Environment aims to give advanced training in: i ) analytical chemistry and quality control; ii) development and validation of new analytical methods, iii) modern methods of analysis and identification; iv) expertise and audits; v) environmental chemistry; vi) as well as give basic training in environmental law.

Condições de Acesso e Ingresso

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry or any other Bachelor’s degree with the appropriate training, namely Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or Physics.

Saídas Profissionais

The Masters in Chemistry acquire appropriate training to work in research and development laboratories, process and laboratory management in the chemistry and pharmaceutical industry, as well as for teaching in higher education institutions. The training acquired in the Quality Control and Environment branch, is particularly suitable for laboratories of chemical control of quality, chemical and clinical laboratories, and as auditors of quality assurance.

Regras de Avaliação

Students enrolled in the respective courses in the academic year to which the assessment relates and simultaneously enrolled in these assessments, where such registration is required (paragraph 6 of Article 4 of the Teaching Regulation of the University of Coimbra, RPUC) are admitted to the assessment tests students be understood by elements of evaluation the following examples: Examination written or oral tests, written or practical work and projects, individual or group, which may have to be defended orally, and participation in class. The evaluation of each module may include one or more of the evaluation elements listed above. The classification of each student, for each course, translates into an integer value between 0 and 20 points and considered approved students who obtain a final mark of 10 points. Where the assessment of a course unit comprises more than one element of assessment, the final grade is calculated from the marks obtained in each element of assessment, through a published formula in the course record, in accordance with paragraph 2 Article 7 of RPUC.

Objetivos da Aprendizagem e Competências a Desenvolver

- Skills in the application of the chemical knowledge learned and ability to understand the resolution of current problems of qualitative and quantitative nature.
- Skills in evaluating and interpreting data and other information of chemical nature, and to elaborate synthetic global visions.
- Ability to argue, both written and orally.
- Communication skills in spoken and written Portuguese and English.
- Ability to deal with bibliographic information either primary or secondary sources and computer databases, including Web of Knowledge.
- Ability to use the Internet for data collection and electronic communication.
- Competence of personal study with a view to professional training throughout life.
- Ability to innovate and perform Scientific Research and Development.
