Objetivos do Curso

Fostering the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills for practising Psychology in a forensic context, to wit, (neuro)psychological assessment and intervention with abusers, victims, and families. Fostering the awareness
and the development of scientific research skills necessary to consolidate research in the field of Forensic Psychology, and knowing the processes underlying the construction and validation of forensic (neuro)psychological assessment
instruments, as well as planning and validating interventions.

Condições de Acesso e Ingresso

The following are eligible to apply to the MCF: a) Holders of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Psychology; b) Holders of a degree in Psychology by a foreign institution, awarded after a first-cycle study structured according to the
principles of the Bologna Process by a participating country; c) Holders of a degree by a foreign institution, recognised as fulfilling the objectives of a bachelor's degree in Psychology; d) Applicants with a relevant academic or professional
CV on Forensic Psychology, recognised as having skills and abilities necessary to undertake a Master's level course.

Saídas Profissionais

Access to professional internship tutored by the Portuguese Psychologists Order (OPP) and subsequent registration in that order, mandatory for the exercise of the profession. Psychological practice (assessment and / or intervention) in: court advisory teams, prisons, educational centers, residential care homes for victims (children, youth, adults and the elderly), child and youth protection commissions, national institute of forensic medicine and forensic sciences (INMLCF); advisory bodies in the field of road accidents, work, disability due to physical / mental illness; intervention entities with families involved in legal issues.

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of number 6 of article 4 of the University of Coimbra Pedagogical Policy. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever assessment includes more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according to a formula published in the course outline under the terms of number 2 of article 7 of the UC Pedagogical Policy.

Objetivos da Aprendizagem e Competências a Desenvolver

Upon completion of the Master's degree, students will be able to:
-Analyse a request and plan an appropriate response;
-Create a well-reasoned (neuro)psychological assessment protocol, adjusted to the requests made by the competent
authorities;
-Develop reports, based on the information collected by applying the assessment protocol, that respond to the
requirements formulated by the requesting entities and support reasoned decision-making;
-Carry out individual/group interventions with victims (children, young people, adults, and the elderly);
-Carry out structured interventions with abusers, young people and adults, in individual/group format, in the community or in confinement;
-Perform interventions in the fields of parental dispute and protection of children and young people;
-Answer as an expert in legal matters;
-Develop research projects to validate assessment tools and to assess the impact of intervention programmes with victims and abuser rehabilitation.
