Teaching Methods

Oral exposition class – Theoretical concepts will be explained using audiovisual support materials (mainly powerpoint). Whenever feasible some demonstrations will be performed in the class room.

Practical Lectures – Examples of industrial processes and research projects.

Doubt sessions/extra classes – Whenever required by the students doubt session or extra classes can be scheduled.

Special seminars – Whenever possible seminars can be scheduled. An renowned specialist will be invited to give a lecturer about specific topics of interest in the scope of this class.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the surface coatings are with special focus on polymer-based coatings. It addresses various aspects which focus on methods of surface characterization, modification techniques and applications. Whenever possible we perform a close link between the subjects taught and some research projects taking place in this area in the DEQ. The main objectives of this course are: the acquisition of knowledge /core and specific skills in the areas of surfaces of coating, involving different methods of modification and characterization; acquisition and development of knowledge / core and specific skills in establishing logical relationships between the different surfaces modification strategies and the final properties of the materials.
