Teaching Methods

Theoretical classes will mainly be discussions with the students (assuming that they have previously read the study materials) and solution of application problems. In the practical classes the students will be divided in groups that will seek for solutions to specific biomedicine problems, thus fostering their self-learning and knowledge-seeking skills.

Learning Outcomes

Use of quantitative computational intelligence methods (neural networks, diffuse systems and their combinations) in modelling and analysis of information in biological and physiological systems, computer simulations and diagnostic support. These methods allow for the computation with uncertainties, partial knowledge, or imprecision are present. They are therefore very important in biomedical activities with real problems, which almost always have these characteristics.
