The course starts with intensive presentations by the various lecturers about the current advances in information systems selected for the present edition. After that, students must choose one of the topics and continue its study in depth with close supervision of one of the instructors. During this period, the student should write a report of quality equivalent to a scientific paper of PhD thesis chapter. At the end of the semester, all students present their work to colleagues and instructors and answer questions from all.
Learning Outcomes
To prepare the researchers to scientifically approach advanced problems in the design, deployment, and management of information systems serving strategic, tactical, and operational objectives of organizations. The course goes beyond purely technical aspects, to also encompass social, organizational, and business considerations. It is expected that the students will develop competences in information systems research needed to publish in conferences and journals of the field. Using Dublin descriptors, the competencies can be classified as follows:

This course addresses advanced topics in design, deployment, and management of information systems, taking into account their socio-technical nature. Being a doctoral-level course, the specific items change according to the most current advances in the IS area and in the work being carried out by the research group that supports the course. Past topics included service-oriented architectures and business processes, service engineering, business rules management, semantic mashup of services, and sociotechnical systems engineering.
