Learning Outcomes

The aim is to promote a reflection on some contemporary criminological schools of thought from an understanding of the evolution of criminological thinking itself. To this end, the essential features of the positivist paradigm or 'the delinquent man' paradigm, the critical paradigm or 'formal control instances,' and the proposal for a 'criminology of integration' will be considered. More detailed attention will be given to some criminological schools of thought referred to as 'critical' regarding the functioning of criminal justice (namely, the theory of white-collar crime, victimology, penal abolitionism, and restorative justice theory) with the purpose of drawing conclusions about the possibilities for the evolution of criminal justice.
