Teaching Methods
Favouring active learning methodologies, the contents will be discussed and illustrated, whenever possible, with examples, whereas urging students to present their knowledge on the various themes. Self-checking exercises will be carried out using online platforms.
The analysis of case studies, lectures from invited experts and field work will encourage students to get closer to the reality of tourism and their training regarding the enhancement and management of heritage resources.
Learning Outcomes
The main objective of the course unit is to provide students with solid knowledge and operative skills in the context of the interrelation between heritage and tourism. Specifically, regarding:
− the fundamentals of heritage resources and heritage tourism;
− the heritage resources as tourist products and as part of the tourism destination ecosystem;
− the sustainable management of heritage tourism.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
− understand the fundamental concepts and issues concerning heritage resources and heritage tourism;
− critically analyse the role of heritage resources as key tourism products for the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourist destination ecosystem;
− apply principles and strategies for sustainable and competitive management of heritage resources;
− discuss challenges and forecast trends in this domain.
