Teaching Methods
Theoretical-practical sessions, with theoretical presentations by teachers and conferences involving specialists. In practical classes, it will be the elaboration of a research project related to one of the sub-items present in the program, accompanied by a tutorial regime. Critical text reviews, video analysis / useful documents may be used to illustrate points of the program. The curricular unit will organize fieldwork related to the observation and consolidation of the syllabus.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the teaching unit, students must have acquired knowledge and skills in the field of Tourism and Territory, to develop an analytical and critical spirit.
Specific objectives and skills to be achieved:
- Understand the physical and human diversity of the Portuguese territory - in time and space, in a context of sustainability;
- Realize how this diversity can constitute unique resources/products that are important for tourism with an impact on domestic and foreign supply and demand;
- Understand the differentiating character of Portuguese territory in the context of the European tourist offer;
- Understand how the physical and cultural characteristics of Portugal can be an asset in the national and international tourist system.

2 - The Portuguese coast and its tourist potential in a context of sustainability;
3 - The climate of Portugal and its potential, as a tourist resource in the context of climate change;
4 - Portugal's vegetation, biodiversity, and environmentally protected areas;
5 - Main characteristics of the Portuguese population and its territorial distribution: its evolution and the potential of tourism supply/demand in a context of demographic ageing;
6- The evolution of the Portuguese economy and the relevance of tourism and travel in economic activity;
6.1 Dynamics of tourism activity associated with PIN projects;
6.2 The (re) discovery of the countryside (historic villages; schist villages; mountain villages);
7 - Tourism and new territorial dynamics;
7.1 Practices and tourist spaces for the Portuguese population (from secondary residences to the resort model).
