Teaching Methods

Exposure, problematization, debate, pratical session for how-to learning.

Learning Outcomes

- Understand the relationship between object size and distance to the sensor, the lens properties and the acquired pixels.
- Understand the spectral nature of the acquisition and the relationship to the spectral characteristics of the lightning systems and to the optical/physical properties of the acquired surface.
- Select, manage and control the different colour spaces and spectral spaces and understand their relationship to the human visual system, the metrology or the material characterization.

Work Placement(s)

No

Syllabus

- Optical geometry, lens, focal distance, corresponding pixel size in the scene
- Acquisition parameters : opening diameter, shutter speed, …
- Spectral nature of the acquisition/measuring : reflectance, radiance, spectral sensitivity functions …
- Colour spaces, colour differences, spectral differences
- How to extend the notions in other imaging systems, with specifities in medical imaging.
