Learning Outcomes
The objective of this course is to provide a solid foundation in microbiology, starting with microbial biodiversity and its importance in the current economic world. The emphasis will then be put on certain genera of interest for which the relationships between these microorganisms and their potential hosts on the one hand and the responses to their microenvironments on the other hand will be detailed. The course will be articulated around these 3 main themes with recent examples in the fields of Health (Human and Animal), Agri-food, Environment and Industry.
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
Taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution of microorganisms
Global microbial responses to the environment (including biofilm formation, resistance acquisition, pathogenicity, quorum sensing)
Interactions between prokaryotes and other organisms (host/pathogen interactions, microbiota)
Antimicrobial chemotherapy.
Human bacterial, viral and fungal diseases.
Students will also learn about the One-Health approach.
Three practical exercises,
- Agri-food domain (Purification of an anti-Listeria molecule of interest in agri-food)
- Health (Antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus)
Environmental (Isolation and characterization at the cellular and molecular level of microorganisms from various environmental samples).
