Learning Outcomes
By considering the knowledge of the methods and tools of morphological investigation, cell and tissue morphology of the human organism and their structural and ultrastructural organization, at the end of this course, the student will acquire:
- relationship between cell/tissue structure and function in health, to better know and describe the pathological tissue;
- knowledges about cell populations and their differentiation, as well as the mechanisms of tissue renewal;
- most advanced insights about translational studies in regenerative medicine, in the field of tissue engineering in particular (use of cells, scaffolds, microenvironment of growth and bioreactors).
Work Placement(s)
NoSyllabus
This course presents a review about the main studies and the new recent researches in regenerative medicine field. In particular, new approaches of tissue engineering, using the 3 main keys (cell type, scaffold, microenvironment) have an ambitious goal: create a bioartificial tissue or organ, similar in structure and function to natural/physiological tissue, to replace morphologically and physiologically altered tissue/organ by disease, trauma, aging,… In addition, experimental model in vitro to develop these studies and researches will be discussed.
Topics will include: concept of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering in particular; 2D vs 3D cell culture; new bioengineered tissue as an experimental models used for research studies and to applications in clinical field; advantages and Limits of Tissue Engineering.
