Syllabus

This course will be divided into four sections
1. it will introduce students to the main issues one has to bear in mind when doing philological research.
2. it will explore critical research methods and methodologies in distinct core (sound, grammar, meaning) and applied domains in linguistics.
3. it will examine different methods (distant vs close reading; language or cultural specific approaches vs comparative readings etc) as well as different theoretical (from wider sociological, linguistic and thematic approaches to feminist, neo-marxist, postcolonial or psychoanalytic or environmental) approaches).
4. it will introduce students to specific methodologies within the growing area of Digital Humanities.
Students will, thus, be introduced to a wide range of tools of research as well as methodological and theoretical approaches that will allow them to explore issues of citizenship, policy and politics, hospitality, mobility and migration, from an informed and critical standpoint.
