Learning Outcomes

These courses intend to boost the students’ legal competence in International, European and foreign family law, specially as far as the Portuguese and the German legal systems are concerned, in the intertwining with the international and European sources. The course intends to enhance the competence to critically analyse current Family Law issues, specially in its comparative approach. In addition to the exchange during the synchronous, interactive sessions, networks and communities of practice shall be established for different status groups, such as students, doctoral students and instructors from both universities, which will enhance their intercultural competence.

Syllabus

The course will deal on a comparative basis and with a focus on Germany and Portugal with issues of family law and the respective legal situation under the influence of the jurisprudence at the European Level. Topics will include legal regulations of new forms of partnership, like same-sex marriage and registered partnerships, of medically assisted reproduction as well as of transgender persons.
