Teaching Methods

The teaching makes use of active communicative methods, often involving pair and group work activities. The course will be taught in English by an experienced native-speaker teacher.

Students are evaluated through continuous assessment. They will also have to do one written test per semester and other tasks considered appropriate by the teacher. At the end of the course, it is the students’ responsibility to enrol in the Cambridge C1 exam in order to obtain the Cambridge C1 Certificate.

Learning Outcomes

Planned to last two semesters, it is a course for students over the age of 16 who are interested in obtaining the C1 - CEFR level certificate issued by Cambridge University Press and Assessment. It specifically targets students who aim to continue their study abroad and require an internationally recognized and accepted certificate. It is also intended for students who need to enrich their curriculum in order to apply for a job. During the course students will be prepared to develop their speaking, writing and use of English skills in order to be able to take the level C1 – (Cambridge Advanced) exam at the end of the second semester.

Syllabus

Course content is focused on everyday topics familiar to students and which allow the development of key skills in order to achieve level C1 of the CEFR (European Framework of Reference for Languages). Core vocabulary themes such as the environment; science; health; technology; among others, which are used to teach the correct use of grammar structures through the study of verbal tenses; the degrees of adjectives; reported speech; passive/active voice. The study of linguistic structures aim to allow the student to communicate effectively, being able to express opinions and provide supporting arguments, giving examples. They should be able to write clearly and in detail, explaining advantages and disadvantages of different points of view. Students will study the structure and learn how to write: essays; reports; proposals; reviews; formal and informal emails; among others.
