Teaching Methods

The theoretical approach corresponds to a constructivist-inspired approach, with moments of discussion of relevant themes, in which activity, participation and cooperation of students is essential and active. The practical component implies the design and development of thematic projects by learners and supervised by the teacher.

Learning Outcomes

The Development of the Curricular Unit “Theory of Education” is mainly intended to create meaningful, reasoned and contextualised moments leading to theoretical and critical reflection on education: concept, purpose, agents and contexts. Thus, its aim is to make known the diversity of paradigms concerning understanding of the educational phenomenon as well as to develop conceptual tools required to build critical and reflective attitudes.

Students should:

- Critically understand theories, concepts, principles and ways of thinking concerning the educational phenomenon.

- Analyze in a critical and reasoned way the different discourses on education.

- Identify the main challenges posed to education in contemporary society.
