Teaching Methods

Expositive method supported by the presentation of slides; interrogative methods; oral or written reflection based on the presentation of audiovisual materials.

Active methodologies based on case studies presented in written texts or using audiovisual materials: reflection from concrete questions, in small groups and followed by sharing in the large group.

Learning Outcomes

1. Provide an overview and critical analysis of the evolution and current trends in inclusive education;

2. Provide a critical analysis about a specificity of reeducation and counseling in the SEN/SN;

3. Be able to characterize  the semiology, nosography and epidemiology of children with specific learning disabilities, giftdness, talents and high performance, cerebral Palsy and sensorial disabilities;

4. Be familiar with the difficulties and challenges of intervening with children with SEN/SN and design interventions adjusted to the specificity of educational needs cases.

Syllabus

1. Special Needs and Special Educational Needs: concepts of disability, functionality, incapacity and handicap. Definitions, types and prevalence of Special Needs.

2. Transversal areas of intervention in Special Needs: inclusion vs integration, early intervention, curricular flexibility and transition to life after school.

3. Specific Learning Disability: definition; characterization and determinants; guidelines for evaluation differential diagnostic and intervention models.

3. Gifted, Talents and high performance: concepts; screening and identification methodes; Psycho-educational intervention and counseling.

4. Cerebarl Palsy: definitions and most relevant aetiologies; regularities in cognitive and socio-emotional development;Psycho-educational intervention and counseling.

5. Sensorial Disabilities: definitions and most relevant aetiologies; regularities in cognitive and socio-emotional development;reeducation and counseling.
