Recommended Prerequisites

The pre-requisites of this course are those corresponding to the application for the PhD Steel and Composite Construction.

Teaching Methods

The organization of the curricular unit depends on the profile of the students, in each academic year, and must be determined according to the objectives defined by the teachers. This organization determines the weight of each of the components of the syllabus. The following activities will developed:

1- Participation in wokshops/oral presentations.

2- Theorectical classes.

3- Presentation and discussion of scientific articles/discussion topics defined by the teacher.

4- Elaboration of a monography and/or project, with presentation and discussion in a PhD workshop.

Learning Outcomes

Students must be able to:

• Demonstrate a comprehensive view of the state-of-the-art and the main research challenges in the scientific area of Steel and Composite Construction;

• Demonstrate fundamental knowledge about the syllabus of the curricular unit, namely through its application in the critical analysis of scientific works, including those that take place in the research group ISISE;

• Demonstrate autonomous learning capabilities, synthesis and scientific writing skills, namely through their application in the preparation of reports and/or monography;

• Demonstrate skills in verbal communication, namely in proactive participation in oral presentations.

The contents of the curricular unit Research Seminar I depend on the profile of the students who attend it, in each academic year, and must be determined according to the objectives defined by the teacher. This organization determines the weight of each of the components of the syllabus, in each academic year. These contents cover the different intervention areas of Steel and Composite Construction.

During the semester, the student should prepares a monography and/or project, with presentation and discussion in a PhD workshop.
