Teaching Methods

The teaching methods combine formal lectures and practical exercises, with the direct involvement of students. Practical work is focused on philological analysis of Portuguese literary texts, presented in different frames, (manuscripts, printed, and digital editions).

Learning Outcomes

This course intends to familiarize students with the process of literary edition in its different modalities. As a first objective, students will learn how to distinguish texts edited with responsible criteria from other current but inadequate versions. A second aim is to provide basic concepts and methods used in the specific field of philological edition, with application in texts of different periods. Students are expected to develop knowledge and tools for future work in editorial areas or to take part in research projects involving specialized edition.
