General knowledge of thematic areas of geology.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical-practical classes for transmission basic theoretical and practical knowledge in the various fields of specialization that are developed in the internship.

Tutorial supervision for monitoring and support of field work (geological recognition, data collection and samples collection), laboratorial work (samples preparaion and obatining analytical data), in data processing and analysis and report elaboration. 

Learning Outcomes

The main objetive of the curricular unit Internship is to complement the training of students in Geology, through the development of integrated studies for application of acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in specific geology domains.

It is also intended to promote the acquisition of skills and experience in the development of activities in technical-professional or scientific research contexts, which represent an added value to the students' formation and professional career.

The students should be able to perform bibliographic research, fieldwork, sampling and samples preparation, campaigns, data acquisition in the field and in the laboratory, data processing, analysis and interpretation, report writing and dissemination of results.

Syllabus

In the Internship curricular unit, the student performs, under supervision of a professor, a scientific research work or scientific-technical work in applied geology. The student should produce a report about the developed work.

The Internship and its syllabus cover several themes or areas of specialization in Geology, according to the domain of specialization of the supervisors. The themes or areas of specialization of Geology covered in the Internships are diverse, providing to students the opportunity to develop skills in several areas, promoting integration in ongoing research projects and in research teams, and taking advantage of existing laboratory infrastructures.
