Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, students should be able to

1. Situate Pragmatics within the discipline of Linguistics;

2. Master the basic concepts of pragmatic description;

3. Understand language activity as action upon the world;

4. Understand the importance of context (linguistic context, situational context, social and cognitive context) in communication;

5. Understand text as the basic unit of communication;

6. Explain aspects of discourse organization.
