Teaching Methods

Theoretical-practical classes with exposition of subjects, analysis and discussion of conceptual issues, as well as scientific articles and internship reports/work projects.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to identify the main paradigms and methodologies involved in a research process in economics and finance. As a result of the teaching-learning process the students should:
- know a wide range of research methodologies, be able to analyse their potentialities, applications and limitations, and master the appropriate terminology;
- understand the method and the specific characteristics of scientific research in a Master's project
- master the ethical issues raised by different methodologies, and be able to conduct the various stages of research within the constraints imposed by them;
- explore the sources of valid scientific information and master the tools and methods of referencing them efficiently and appropriately to the specific channels where the original research is to be disseminated;
- and to be able to formulate a clear research proposal.

Syllabus

In the various items that make up the unit the following topics are addressed, among others: (1) The research process: assumptions and main stages; (2) Bibliographic databases and referencing standards (3) literature review process - State-of-the-art survey; (4) How to write an internship/work project report, (5) main sources of obtaining data: primary and secondary; (6) the stages of the publication process in scientific journals - the review process and the role of editors and reviewers (7) Preparation of a research project: main elements and evaluation criteria
