Mathematics for Economics and Management I

Teaching Methods

Exposition of matters and presentation of illustrative examples taking recourse to data show. Resolution of practical exercises that illustrate and complements the matters presented in the theoretical classes.

Learning Outcomes

Overall objectives

It is expected that the student be able to do exploratory analysis of data using numerical and graphical methods, so that the most relevant aspects may be identified, with potential use in Management and Economics. He should understand concepts and be able to do some calculations concerning probabilities and Random Variables.

Specific objectives

Characterization of the distribution of a statistical variable with the aim at taking decisions. Relations between the values of one or more statistical variables. Knowledge of basic definitions and results on probabilities and random variables.

Generic competencies

Capacity for: analysis and synthesis, oral and written communication, problem solving, applying knowledge in practice.

Specific competencies Ability to: do logic and deductive thinking, use intuition to solve problems, use graphical representations to interpret results, resume and take conclusions on the data aiming at decision.
