Teaching Methods

The lessons in this course have an essentially practical approach and are all taught in computer classrooms. After a brief introduction to the new concepts, always accompanied by illustrative examples, students are challenged with practical exercises. Students are encouraged to work independently in solving these challenges, thus promoting the development of autonomy and learn-by-doing. Priority is given to solving small practical cases and discussing different perspectives on organizing and analyzing data using Microsoft Excel.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to develop practical skills in the use of information technologies, in particular Microsoft Excel. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to: 1) Identify the main functionalities, advantages and disadvantages of MS Excel for data processing and problem solving; 2) Plan and organize spreadsheets efficiently; 3) Use simple and advanced formulas for data processing; 4) Build graphs for data visualization and analysis; 5) Extract and analyze information from the functionalities of data tables and pivot tables.

- Introduction to Microsoft Excel workbooks and spreadsheets.

2- Data types, structuring, storage and organization in MS Excel.

3- Functions in MS Excel - from simple to more complex functions: math, logic, statistics, lookup and reference, text manipulation, etc.

4- Organization, formatting, protection and data validation.

5- Presentation of information using graphics: construction and formatting.

6- Building dynamic tables and dynamic graphs.

7- What-if Analysis.
